As a theater maker with formal training in studio arts and a long history
as a visual artist, my interests and inclinations are tied to formal
investigations more typically related to the visual arts. Though I work
primarily as a scenic designer due to my deep interest in spatial relations
and physical configurations of interaction, I prefer to engage that practice
as it applies to site-responsive work or devised performance -- or through
sound design, which is often a more uniquely effective storytelling mechanism.
As a director I often work with small ensembles to act as author in devising
pieces that reside at the formal nexus of movement, kinetic sculpture, and
found-object assemblage. Working in tension with the politics and history of
site, this work typically engages with questions of audience experience,
authorship and authenticity.
